"It had to be something different ,something that nobody else making "
Akio Morita
Akio Morita turned what was a small department store in Tokyo into the world’s most successful consumer electronics company. Akio Morita wasn’t only co-founder of the Sony Corporation, he was also one of the few entrepreneurs that helped Japan’s economy recover in the after World War II. With Morita helm until Sony remains one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, with over 158,000 employees worldwide and revenues in excess of $63 billion.
Morita was confident that his country could not only pull ,but could become leader in the global market place he wanted to be one of the once to help . he talked to his friend IBuka , how they could combined their knowledge of physics and engineering to same use . in 1946 marita and ibuka finally found a solution they created the Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo Kabushiki (Telecommunication Engineering Corporation ) based in Nagoya ,Japan the company was established with initial capital of just 350 in a bombed out . shop that had been abandoned , after the war he wasn’t sure about what product their business would focus on , he wanted to create innovative and high quality consumer electronic product that would put Japan back on the map .
How Morita Became an International Success
“There is no secret ingredient or hidden formula responsible for the success of the best Japanese companies, We all learn by imitating, as children, as students, as novices in the world of business. And then we grow up and learn to blend our innate abilities with the rules or principles we have learned.” said Morita.
1- Create the Market Where There Is None:
Observation: Morita hated market research. Instead, he believed in the power of simple observation. What were people out on the streets doing? What were they wearing? What were they listening to? How could Sony create something that would improve their experience? That was how Morita came up with his creative and innovative product ideas, from practical inspection and intuition ,Morita wanted his company to be a player on the global stage, and he marketed it accordingly. From creating a business name that would be easy to remember in every language, to ensuring his products had consistent names across the board, Morita strove to create a strong global corporation.
2- Management Means To Inspire Creativity:
“From a management standpoint, it is very important to know how to unleash people's inborn creativity,” said Morita. In his concept is that anybody has creative ability, but very few people know how to use it. Morita created one of the world’s largest multinational corporations but he did not do it alone. Indeed, over his fifty-year career, Morita became one of the most outspoken businessmen for sound management principles, of which his were largely based on Japanese traditions. The most important mission for a managers is to develop a healthy relationship with his employees, to create a family-like feeling within the corporation, a feeling that employees and managers share the same fate.
3- Challenge Conventions and Break the Mould:
Morita discussed the fact that the high incomes of most American CEOs actually hurt their companies versus the more egalitarian and tight knit community of Japanese companies , relies too much on outsiders to help make business decisions, and this is because of the insecurity that American decision makers feel in their jobs, as compared with most top Japanese corporate executives, Morita had always been expected to follow Japanese tradition, which dictated that he was to follow the 15 family generations before him into the sake manufacturing business. Morita never intended to do such a thing. Instead, he chose to follow his heart, and take a risk on a risky startup in the even riskier business environment that was postwar Japan.
4-Fearless:
When it came to both his home and work lives, Morita flew in the face of thousands of years of Japanese tradition. He risked everything on a small startup with a friend. He even dared to challenge the global superpower, America. When it came to his beliefs, Morita was never afraid to speak his mind.
in my view of point Changing these ideas and ways thinking can be very hard. This is especially true if we try and don’t succeed at things, we just tell ourselves we can’t achieve this and stop trying. So stop thinking in negative way and draw your dreams over our hands .
